new fall term

okie tanx2, u're right - it's about time to blog again! sometimes i wonder why i should susah susah blog when i can just make announcements on my fb status to let ppl know what i've been up to hehe. oh well - i guess journalling is a good practice, more for recording events for myself (since who reads this blog anyways??) ;)

summers ending. today is labor day. didn't have to go to work - stayed in the oasis of home. :P

had a really great summer. for the first time since we moved to durham, we didn't go back to malaysia for the summer. i went to colombia con martha y paul y emilia instead while okm worked on his thesis. colombia was amazing - so different culturally from any place i'd been. it was also my first visit to a south american country, my first time setting foot on the continent. i've now been to 6 out of 7 continents. but who's keeping score? ;)

it's the 2nd week into the new fall term. malaysia celebrated it's 51st anniversary of independence yesterday. got to meet up with the malaysians at duke this weekend over a merdeka gathering potluck. i brought a chicken sonoma salad and blue corn chips and my pineapple and cilantro salsa.

had dinner at dave and holly's on friday. they make the best drinks. i build up my alcohol tolerance each time we have dinner with d&h.

got 'hurt' on the job last week. learnt the hard way that it's unwise to wear sandals on a job site. no, it wasn't the case of stepping on a nail or brick falling on foot ... i was attacked by fire ants. pesky tiny harmless looking things. boo hoo. my foot swelled up to the size of a mango - probably compounded by the poison ivy from blueberry picking the day before in flip flops (another unwise decision in footwear choice). finally went to see the doctor when it was apparent that the swell would not subside on it's own. she gave me a cortisone shot (ouch!) and antibiotics (yuck).

going for swim now. happy labor day!
