5 years!!!

i had a really memorable anniversary celebration this past weekend. thanks to my bubie! wasn't going to blog about this at first because i wanted to keep it to myself - but then again, this is mY blog AND journal AND i have a bad habit of forgetting alot of cool things that happen to me which IS the reason for blogging afterall ... right??

we got married 5 years ago on february 28 - and this year our anniversary fell on a saturday which is awesome because we could just chill and hang out the entire day and the next day too!

the weekend began with a surprise breakfast in bed. using the ikea bed tray for the first time since we got it. the best part of the breakfast was the reading material that okm had prepared (although the cheese omelette was super yum as well) i later found out that it had taken him an entire week to compose the letter. *sniff*

the original plan was to do something outdoorsy but the weather didn't cooperate so we had to put into action plan B which was to go to nasher to see the new bloomsbury and escultura social exhibitions. in between exhibits we got lunch at the museum cafe. the lemon cheesecake with blackberry sauce was absolutely divine. mmm.

we watched mamma mia in the afternoon. and we had cheesy munchies to go with the cheesy movie. didn't really occur to me until now but it was actually a really good choice because it's a wedding movie. :D

for dinner we went to the fairview restaurant at the washington duke inn. which we'd always wanted to go to because it's really close by but had never been to. haha. how to describe the place - old money fancy traditional - service was exceptional - the food was good - but not terribly excitinglah. but as it was a romantic dinner with the bubie, food is secondary, naturally. :D

now the most memorable part of a memorable weekend was the 5-hr long spa package that okm surprised me with. i was really really surprised - never suspected the tricksy bu one teeny bit. it was only as i was laying on the massage table and playing back the events in my mind (like flashbacks in a movie) i realized there were all these little clues that i should have picked up on but didn't. haha. blur.

sunday was another dreary wet day. so it was luverly to spend all that time at the umstead being pampered - one treatment after another. *happy sigh* the funny thing was that i went dressed in hiking clothes because that was how okm got me to go the umstead all unsuspecting. i was 'sold' on the idea of going hiking with dave and holly on a drizzly sunday morning because it was an 'adventure' and we didn't want them to think we were wimps. haha. i'm still amazed at how he planned everything to the second so that dave called to 'cancel' on the hike at the highway exit to the umstead. and how i played so well into the plan - by suggesting that we stop there to have a look - 'cos it's one of my things to go visit buildings.

i had lunch there by a cozy fireplace. oh - i was able to take this pic 'cos okm packed a little carry bag with necessities such as my wallet and camera. haha. bubie is very sweet one. oh and very intense too - eventhough he doesn't think so which i think is hilarious. so while i was enjoying the spa, he went home and spent the next couple of hours cleaning, vacumming, doing the laundry, washing all the sheets, etc. so that i could come home to a sparkly clean apartment! :P
