Postcard from Boston

Couldn't have asked for better weather while we were in Boston. It was uncharacteristically warm and sunny which is something when you realize that they had 3' of snow the weekend before on St Paddy's day.

My Boston Notes and Scenes



Thursday:
After checking in, we immediately headed out to Chinatown (2 T stops away from the hotel) for ngaulam mein (okm) and yeedan mein (me) at the Peach Farm restaurant. Then back to the room for a short nap before heading over to Cambridge to meet Karen for dinner and a bit of sight seeing since it was so pretty outside. Walked around the Harvard Square, the yard, etc. and spent the rest of the time drinking lungjing while waiting for Karen at Tealuxe. We had Vietnamese for dinner. Another friend, CS Gan joined us.

Friday:
Must have walked a hundred miles today. As okm was busy at the conference, I wandered around the city by myself. Walked all the way from the hotel to the ICA via Newbury St, Beacon Hill, across the Boston Common, Faneuil Hall, the Aquarium and close to 10 fingers of the Harbor walkway. Thankfully, I had on very comfortable boots.

Our hotel - the Marriot - is a shopper's dream location. The lobby is connected to the Copley Shopping center and is one street away from Newbury St. One of my missions for this trip was to find a dress for Anne's wedding which I managed to achieve in the afternoon after a short nap after my long walk.

Had dinner at an Italian restaurant across the street called Papa Razi.

Saturday:
Quick picnic breakfast at the Boston Commons before hopping on a T which took us to the JFK Presidential Library. It was awesome to stand in the atrium and look up into the clear blue sky and out across the waters to the other side of the harbor. Lunched in Chinatown (again!) Tea with Shien Jin and his girlfriend Lian. Dinner at Nick's (very very good cook). It snowed as we were walking back from Nick's - my new umbrella came in handy.

Sunday:
Slept in. Breakfast at Au Bon Pain. Checked out. Lunch at Legal Seafoods. Airport. Home!

Yes - Durham = Home! It's good to be back :)
