9 miles!

another geeky running post. i'm afraid i've become rather running obsessed. it's quite addictive you see ... yes, even in the cold of winter. in actual fact, i don't mind the cold so much because once you warm up it's really very refreshing to run in the single digits. but rain and wind are a runner's winter enemies. and i really despise having to wait an additional day to let the ground dry up after a wet bout.

okm was a school runner and he's a little much faster than me and so because of the difference in our running speeds, we don't run side by side unless it's a new course that we're checking out. we run in opposite directions instead so that we'll pass each other twice along the 5K loop around the duke golf course (our regular running course).

anyways *drumroll* my achievement for the long run this week was 9 miles. it's the first time i've run that far. ever! whoooppee. that's 15K and so i'm very very close to my goal of running a half Marathon (21K).

saturday's weather was gorgeous - soft sun rays filtering though the trees. it was in the 40s when we started so i had on a beanie and gloves. at the end of the run i'd taken off both and the temperature had reached 50F.

i ran at a very relaxed pace throughout - stopping once to tie my shoe lace, another time to take off my beanie, and then one last time to remove my gloves, eat some chocolate gu (which stuck in my throat) and wash it down with a sip of water just before the final 3mile lap. i have to confess that i was a nervous wreck the night before but somehow i got enough rest and ran a really good run. i finished strong which means i probably go faster next time. yea!

wow i'm impressed. i can only run to the traffic light and back (that's prob 1 km). ;p but i'm trying to do it regularly (once a week) and hopefull increase the distance eventually.

u'll definitely be able to increase the distance very soon if u keep at it. :) yay, glad you're running! do you take patch with you or does he get distracted by all the cool things along the route?

we tried it once but never again. he insists on pee-ing at every tree. roll eyes.
