i slept in this morning. like really slept in. going to pay penance by blogging. :D
oh but of course i slept in - and it was the most delicious sleep - yesterday was after all quite physically tiring. i ran 10K and power yoga'ed. cooked risotto. and had a bit of an adventure running around the airport trying to find friend we were supposed to pick up. nothing to say 'cept that common sense is not as common as they'd like us to believe. ... anyways. risotto - that time consuming italian rice dish. but the most exquisitely yummy comfort food. love that barley/nori/spinach combination from last week so much that i just had to make it again last night. also roasted some brussel sprouts and fuji apples in olive oil with lot's of salt and some chilli flakes. easy peasy and delicious.
but back to italians. lovers, lovers of life, lovers of food ... perhaps it was not a coincidence that i decided to cook risotto last nite. i have just finished reading eat, pray and love. which i highly recommend. it's a memoir (and mini travelogue) of one year in the author's life. following a long drawn bitter divorce and end of a tumultuous love affair. the book/year is divided in equal parts in italy - where she rediscover life's pleasures (mainly food, no sex), india - where she searches for spiritual healing, indonesia - where she finds love again. it was a light and engaging read and really appealed to me on several levels. for one, she's childfree by choice. shall not go into this but it was one of the reasons for the break-up of her first marriage. (spoiler - she does get married again and her second husband's is almost 60 and has had a vasectomy - which she writes about in 'commitment' the follow up book.) her time at an ashram in india was quite fascinating as well and it gave me a deeper understanding of the discipline of yoga. finally, indonesia - neighbor country, hence quite accessible. i've been to jakarta and bali as a child but have not been back since. i'm now inspired to travel to the archipelago - to teeny weeny islands like gili meno. and eat tempeh, perhaps? :Ptempeh. originates from indonesia. quite surprising then that so many malaysians are not aware of it. i cannot wait to have it again at one of those nasi padang restaurants. in the meantime, this is what we get in the supermarkets here. hmm ... looks like tempeh maybe on tonite's menu ;)
